We have hit the halfway mark for 2023. For me, Summer is in full swing, and pools are opening. What does this mean for podcasting? For me, podcasting is a winter sport. I see my numbers take a slight dip. At Libsyn, the support desk sees their volume go down a bit. I point this out because some people panic when their numbers dip. For example, a show about weddings will get popular in the Spring and Summer and then dip during the cold months (cause fewer people get married). I am able to ride these fluctuations because I’ve seen them repeatedly for the last 18 years. That’s why I’m bringing this up. This may be year one for you, and your numbers start to go the wrong way. This may be a seasonal thing. Ride the storm out, and keep focusing on your audience.
Why Are You Assuming?
I was working with a client, and they were excited (which is good) to release the episode (their first) they had recorded. I explained how it was now time to get some feedback. They were ready to move on to publishing it and getting it into Apple, etc. I explained it would make more sense to get feedback. I explained how you need people from an outside perspective to provide feedback (we are too close to our own content). The person said, “Let’s assume it’s good.”
Why assume? Get some honest feedback. I’m doing an episode about this in the future. You don’t have to assume. You just need the courage to ask someone for feedback. The world has waited 19 years for your show. It can wait a few more weeks.

This is a tough one. This exercise is from the book Make Noise: A Creator's Guide to Podcasting and Great Audio Storytelling.
Describe your podcast in no more than ten words, and do so in a way that describes nothing else in the world. The fun part is you CAN'T use any of these words. PDF

I Ordered Some New Rode Products
The Rode RodeCaster Duo (baby caster) is available for pre-order as is the new USB Enabled Rode Podmic. I got to see and hear the Rode Podmic in London, and it was impressive. When using the USB, you get all the effects of the Rodecaster Pro. One of the things I like about Sweetwater is they have a 90-day payment plan.
Eleven Labs
I uploaded four one-minute clips of me, and now I can type something, and my voice reads it to me. In eleven labs I can adjust how much my voice fluctuates. The very scary part is that this is as bad as it will get. It will only get better. You can hear this at the beginning of School of Podcasting episode 882 www.schoolofpodcasting.com/882
Quality? Anyone Quality?
I had a friend in from out of town that I’ve known since I was 12. We would play guitars for hours, and when he was in town, we went to Guitar Center (which is basically a VERY large store with TONS of guitars). It used to be you would pick a guitar off the wall and instantly want to buy it. I played four guitars that night, and every single one made me want to put it back on the wall instantly. You only get one chance to make a first impression.
