Siri Take a Note Please....
I'm Becoming a Macaholic
I remember once I was doing training at MIT. Macintosh computers were at a very low point. There was one guy there who was a GIANT Apple Fan Boy to the point that when he left the room, he turned and shouted, “Mac is not dead.” I thought, “Sheesh, that guy has a problem.” This week, I slowly noticed I’m becoming more and more like that guy.
I’ve used Evernote for probably 20 years. I am lucky in that they keep sending me deals that have me paying next to nothing. If I signed up for their first paid version today, it would be $129/year. There is that, “Is $10/month going to kill you?” No, but it adds up when you have 10 of those.
My most significant “Oh cool” moment was when I discovered in the car that I could say, “Hey Siri, take a note,” and then speak my note, and she transcribed it. As I spent nearly 20 hours driving to different events last week, this came in handy. If you have an iOs device, check it out. If you’re on Android, I also hear good things about Google Keep.
In the end, it just seems the best tool is the one that was explicitly designed to do what you’re trying to do instead of a Swiss army knife designed to do everything.
QUESTION OF THE MONTH
The November question of the month deals with ads in podcasts. I’d REALLY love to hear your opinion (and this is a FREE way to get your show in front of a few thousand people). I need your answer by November 24th. Go to www.schoolofpodcasting.com/question
Ecamm Live Makes Me Pretty
I love Streamyard if you’re on a PC, but if you’re on a Mac, check out Ecamm Live. Instead of buying that $800 Sony DSLR camera, you can get a great-looking blurry background using Ecamm and my Elgator Facecam Pro.
Here is a video of me playing with the tool.
No More Worrying About Amazon Affiliate TOS
I got a sternly written letter from Amazon as I was using Switchy (a link shortener), but as people can’t tell from links that they are going to Amazon, it breaks their terms of service (TOS). Genioous Link gives me all the reporting and lets the visitors know they are going to Amazon, and I might earn a commission. It also makes it easy to sign up for other Amazon stores (UK, etc), and it makes pages if I have other affiliate programs. For example, this link https://geni.us/facecampro takes you to the Elgato Facecam Pro I mentioned earlier, and you will see a link to Amazon and Best Buy.
It’s only $6 a month, and the headache it removes (along with some kick-butt stats) makes it worth it (for me). See https://supportthisshow.com/geniouslink
A Cool Affiliate Directory
I was unaware of the Affiliate Directory Planet Howl. They have a ton of companies you can partner with (like Target), and they seem to have a wide range from fashion to technology and all points in between. This works nicely with the Genious Link that I mentioned above. Here is my referral link https://supportthisshow.com/planethowl
Looking to Organize Your Studio or Get Into Video
I just bought this Production Stand that enabled me to put my cameras (I have two) anywhere, and I could also add my lights, a boom arm, etc. This is a limited-time deal at Sweetwater where it’s normally $199, it’s on sale for $49.
Why Is This Good?
At the School of Podcasting, I’m updating the Hindenburg tutorials. In the SOP show, I will be talking about LinkedIn, and I have someone who quit podcasting after 5 years (and the lessons she learned).
Got a Request?
Got an idea for an episode of the School of Podcasting? I do that podcast for you, so I’d love to hear what you need.

Please note this newsletter may contain links where I earn a small commission. I don’t talk about stuff that sucks or looks scammy without saying, “This looks scammy.”
