You’ve heard the old saying, “Three things to avoid discussing at Thanksgiving: Religion, Politics, and Abortion.” So I say this for anyone thinking of starting a political podcast. At least 50% of your audience will hate you and yet listen to you religiously to ensure they still hate you.
For the record, I do NOT want to talk about politics, but this story revolves around them. A member of the School of Podcasting does a show ring wing that it is almost left. There is nothing wrong with that. I personally think ALL politicians are bought and paid for by banks, big pharma, and other large lobbies.
The student went to advertise in an app that their content, per their stated/public guidelines, crossed the line. The app refused to promote their show, and the student said I could no longer promote their service.
I told him that, like I always do, I provide the facts and let my clients decide. In the future, I’ll expand more on an episode of Building a Better Dave.
Long story short: He took his ball and went home, which is a shame.
I just want to remind everyone, it’s OK to have a different opinion. That doesn’t make you the enemy. It makes you different, and if we were all the same it would be really boring.

Read the Manual
My Dad used to say, “When in doubt, read the manual.” About 18 months ago, I switched to the All-In-One SEO Plugin for WordPress. Long story short, I ended up alerting Google not to crawl my website. As you might imagine, my search engine ranking fell off a cliff.
I hired a coach who made a pretty graph showing how I use to rank VERY HIGH for some really good keywords, but that had gone. So tonight I started playing with Ubersuggest and it said, “I can’t crawl your site…” well, that’s not good.
So, after reading the All-In-One SEO Plugin documentation, I solved that issue. So often, we start playing with new tools, resources, etc., and we learn enough to use them when we should read the full manual.
The bright side of the story is I have had a good year so far, so I can only hope the rest of the year (now that Google can find me again) will be even better.
