You Can Always Find a Reason to Not Podcast
Maybe now is not the time to podcast...
I comb many forums and sites to see what people are talking about in the podcasting space. We have entered another “overthinking season.” This is where people talk about things like:
On season 2 should I continue with the last number or start over at 1?
What day should I publish on, and what is the best time?
What day should I send the newsletter? The day the episode is posted or later?
Now, on one hand, I love that you are putting some thought into your show; you can overthink things. So ask yourself, “What’s the worst thing that can happen?” So you send your newsletter on Tuesday instead of Thursday. How are you going to know which one works better? Is it going to offend your audience to the point they leave? Probably not, so why not try it and see what happens?
I’ve always been a tartar sauce guy when it comes to fish. The other day I used my air fryer to bake up some filets, and I thought, “I’ve never tried lemon juice on fish. It might be healthier. I don’t hate lemons. I wonder what it’s like. So I put some on my fish, and it was delicious. The worst thing that could’ve happened is I ruined a filet to the point I wouldn’t eat it. I had more.
So many of the things we worry about don’t really matter, but it’s enough to pause our podcast progress. That bothers me that something that doesn’t really matter is stopping your content from reaching the intended audience.
Do You Really Want to Podcast?
When we always seem to find a reason not to podcast it makes me wonder, “Do you really want to podcast?” I hate getting up at 3 AM to catch a flight, but I do it frequently. We seem to find a way to do what we want to do. When I say I want to lose weight but never find time to exercise and am sketchy at best in logging my food into Cronometer, I ask myself, “Do you REALLY want to lose weight?”
Maybe it’s a case where it’s not that you shouldn’t ever, but maybe NOW is the best time.
I know I need to identify a WHY for weight loss that inspires me to do the work that is needed. If you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast for a while, identify your WHY that will inspire you to press record.
When your need to SERVE exceeds your FEAR of podcasting, you will press RECORD.
Don’t focus so much on yourself, and focus on THEM. If you need help, I love helping people plan, launch, grow, and monetize their show. You know where to find me.
Podcast Profit Summit
My buddy and co-host of the Podcast Review Show Erik K Johnson has put together a Podcast Profit Summit where I (along with a TON of other speakers) will be sharing insights into podcast monetization. There are a lot of free gifts, and insights.
Have you struggled to grow your podcast, increase your downloads, and add more subscribers to your podcast?
Have you wondered how to leverage your authority and differentiate your show in a sea of podcasts already online?
Have you wondered why some podcasters are able to monetize their podcast and you haven’t yet?
Then mark your calendar for the Podcast Profits Summit, happening November 2-4, 2023.
And I’m honored to be an invited speaker at this podcast summit that covers everything you need to position your podcast for success!
I’m looking forward to it. Check it out (aff)

Why Is This Good?
I interviewed David Hooper last night. I’ve known Dave forever, and his episode provides the behind-the-scenes of his interview with Dolly Parton. I thought it was fabulous so I picked it apart and explained WHY this works. (follow the show)
